McMINNVILLE, Ore.—Senior
Elsie Chin won the 400M Hurdles and Lewis & Clark College women's track & field posted nine top-50 marks in program history on Saturday at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The River Otters racked up 10 top-10 finishes and four student-athletes cracked the top-100 in NCAA DIII this season. Saturday's meet was one of the largest meets of the season thus far - with 22 schools represented and nearly as many club teams.
Chin finished first out of 19 competitors in the 400M Hurdles. She crossed the line in a season-best time of 1:04.14 to hold off Willamette's Mashani Coleman by 0.12 seconds. Chin's time moved her into second place in the Northwest Conference this season.
Senior
Malia Heien finished second out of 56 runners in the 800M. The senior ran a season-best time of 2:17.32. Fellow senior
Miriam Reside notched a time of 2:25.62 to place eight overall. Junior
Mackenzie Olver posted a season-best mark of 2:35.42 to finish in 32
nd place. Sophomore
Talia Tomhave came in 42
nd overall with a time of 2:43.41.
Junior
Divinity Singleton registered the top finish amongst the team's field athletes. Singleton finished fourth out of 39 throwers in the shot put. She launched the implement 11.82M (38-09.50 Feet) to move up to sixth in program history. First years
Ky Roussin (10.19M/33-05.25 Feet) and
Lillian Morlan (9.69M/31-09.50 Feet) placed 17
th and 21
st in the shot put.
Junior
Rose Dinh added a top-five mark in program history in the long jump. Dinh leapt 5.36M (17-07.00 Feet) to place sixth out of 39 jumpers. The junior's PR mark pushed her up to fourth all-time in school history. Senior
Anli Davis added a PR jump of her own. Davis jumped 4.18M (15-09.50 Feet) to place 25
th in the event. Her PR mark moved her up to 33
rd in program history in the long jump.
Junior
Lillian Besa led Lewis & Clark in the discus and the hammer. Besa placed seventh out of 39 throwers in the discus with a mark of 35.52M (116-06 Feet). Senior
Reilyn Sabado posted the 20
th-best mark in program history to finish in 15
th place. Her throw traveled 32.75M (107-05 Feet). Singleton wrapped up the event in 18
th place with a mark of 31.49M (103-03 Feet). Roussin added a top-50 mark in program history as well. The first year launched the implement 28.38M (93-01 Feet) to place 25
th. Her throw moved her into 32
nd in program history. Morlan posted a mark of 26.36M (86-05 Feet) to finish 31
st.
In the hammer, Besa's best throw traveled 34.78M (114-01 Feet) to help her finish 18
th out of 35 throwers. Singleton wrapped up a busy day in 29
th place with a mark of 31.84M (104-05 Feet). Roussin tossed the hammer 28.84M (94-07 Feet) to place 32
nd overall.
Senior
Ali Kerschner led a trio of Lewis & Clark runners in the 3,000M Steeplechase. Kerschner finished in sixth when she crossed the line in 13:04.29. First years
Tesla Curtis and
Katherine Scannell each posted PR times and top-30 marks in program history. Curtis came across in eighth place with a time of 13:15.45. Scannell registered a mark of 13:45.74 to place ninth.
Senior
Emogene Lutz posted the final top-10 finish of the day for women's track & field. The senior placed ninth out of 15 competitors in the 10K. She ran a blistering final lap (1:29.98) to earn a spot at the NWC Championship Meet with a time of 41:52.64.
Junior
Callow Soto led a trio of Lewis & Clark runners in the 200M. Soto posted the 15
th-fastest time in school history when she crossed the line in a PR time of 26.71. Her time helped her place 18
th out of 61 sprinters. Junior
Carolyn Mayberry (28.76) and first year
Sofia Figueroa (28.83) each posted PR times to finish 51
st and 52
nd overall.
Dinh represented Lewis & Clark in the 100M Hurdles. The junior crossed the line in 16.99 to finish 19
th out of 28 competitors.
Mayberry paced the River Otters in the 400M. The junior notched a PR time of 1:04.19 to finish 24
th out of 37 runners. Figueroa added the 46
th-fastest time in school history when she crossed the line in 1:05.31 to place 29
th. Senior
AJ Schroeder notched a time of 1:12.00 to come in 35
th place.
Tomhave and junior
Maeva Conroy represented Lewis & Clark in the 1,500M. Tomhave posted a time of 5:26.87 to finish in 36
th place. Conroy was just behind her in 39
th with a time of 5:34.29.
In the team's lone relay of the day, Lewis & Clark finished in 11
th in the 4x100M Relay. The quartet of Dinh, Soto, Figueroa and Mayberry combined for a time of 51.83.
BY THE NUMBERS
- With her time in the 400M Hurdles, Chin moved up to 21st in NCAA DIII this season.
- Dinh ranks 48th in NCAA DIII this year in the long jump.
- Heien's time in the 800M puts her 58th in NCAA DIII this year.
- Singleton now stands 89th in NCAA DIII this season in the shot put.
- Curtis (24th) and Scannell (27th) both posted top-50 marks in the 3K Steeplechase.
- Chin (400M Hurdles) and Heien (800M) each ran the second-fastest time in the NWC this season in their events. The duo are also apart of the second-fastest 4x400M Relay team in the conference.
