Women's Track & Field Posts A Dozen Top-10 Finishes At Peyton-Shotwell Invitational

Senior Ali Kerschner posted a PR time in the Steeplechase to finish second overall

TACOMA, Wash.—Lewis & Clark College women's track & field posted a dozen top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational. 
 
THE BASICS 
 
Women's Track & Field - 6th out of 15 Teams – 45 Points 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
Seniors Elsie Chin and Ali Kerschner each posted second-place finishes and the River Otters notched six top-50 marks in program history. Saturday's meet provided Lewis & Clark a chance to compete against some new faces. Lewis & Clark competed against NCAA DI University of Washington, NCAA DII Seattle Pacific University and the four Northwest Conference schools located in Washington. 
 
Chin placed second out of 13 runners in the 400M. She crossed the line in 59.39 to finish as one of just three runners to break 60 seconds in the event. 
 
Kerschner earned her second-place showing in the 3,000M Steeplechase. She placed second out of three runners with a PR time of 12:56.74. 
 
The River Otters entered two relay teams in the 4x400M Relay. The "A" team of Chin, senior Miriam Reside, junior Callow Soto and senior Malia Heien finished third out of four teams. Their time of 4:03.38 moved them up to sixth all-time in program history. The second quartet of junior Carolyn Mayberry, first year Katherine Scannell, junior Mackenzie Olver and sophomore Talia Tomhave combined for a time of 4:35.73 to finish sixth overall. 
 
Heien led a quintet of River Otters in the 1,500M. The senior finished fourth out of 35 runners behind two runners from UW and one from Seattle Pacific. She crossed the line in 4:45.61. Reside took 19th place with a mark of 5:10.60. Junior Nadia Cota placed 24th overall with a time of 5:19.08. Tomhave (5:26.08) and Olver (5:35.25) finished in 27th and 32nd places. 
 
Mayberry and first year Sofia Figueroa added the final top-10 times for Lewis & Clark on the track. Mayberry placed seven out of 17 competitors in the 400M Hurdles. The junior came across in 1:10.17. Figueroa finished ninth overall with a mark of 1:11.59. 
 
The duo also competed in the 100M Hurdles. Mayberry finished 11th out of 17 hurdlers with a time of 17.80. Figueroa crossed the line in 18.25 to place 13th
 
Senior Emogene Lutz represented Lewis & Clark in the 5,000M. She posted a time of 20:24.12 to finish 12thout of 20 runners. 
 
Soto finished 14th overall in the 100M Dash. The junior registered a time of 13.28. 
 
Cota and Scannell represented Lewis & Clark in the 800M. Cota came across in 17th place out of 22 runners with a time of 2:40.81. Scannell was just behind her in 19th place with a final time of 2:42.46.
 
Lewis & Clark added five top-10 finishes in the field events. 
 
Junior Divinity Singleton led a trio of River Otters in the shot put. The dual-sport athlete launched the implement 11.32M (37-01.75 Feet) to place fourth out of 19 throwers. First year Ky Roussin placed sixth overall. Roussin posted a heave of 10.62M (34-10.25 Feet). Fellow first year Lillian Morlan recorded a mark of 9.81M (32-02.25 Feet) to finish ninth overall. 
 
Senior Reilyn Sabado led Lewis & Clark in the javelin and the discus. In the javelin, Sabado launched the javelin 25.11M (82-04 Feet) to finish sixth out of nine competitors. 
 
Sabado paced four River Otters in the discus throw. Sabado finished 11th out of 20 throwers with a throw of 32.63M (107-00 Feet). Singleton placed 12th overall with a mark of 31.48M (103-03 Feet). Morlan posted a PR throw of 28.52M (93-07 Feet) to finish in 15th place. Roussin registered a mark of 25.91M (85-00 Feet) to finish 19th overall. 
 
Senior Anli Davis placed seven out of 15 competitors in the triple jump. Davis leapt 9.89M (32-05.5 Feet) on her first jump to finish in seventh.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Heien's time in the 1,500M (4:45.61) was the fastest time by a runner in the Northwest Conference this season. 
  • Sabado and Morlan both moved into the top-35 in program history in the discus. Sabado now sits 20thall-time and Morlan moved up to 31st all-time. 
  • Mayberry and Figuera each posted top-30 marks in program history in the 400M Hurdles. Mayberry moved into 21st place in program history and Figueroa moved up to 27th all-time. 
  • Roussin moved up to 21st place in program history in the shot put. 
  • Chin moved up to fourth in the Northwest Conference in the 400M with her season-best time of 59.39.  
WHO'S NEXT 
 
Lewis & Clark will travel to Linfield University on Saturday, when they compete at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invite.
