WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Lewis & Clark College women's soccer held Whitman College scoreless for more than 77 minutes before the Blues scored twice late in a 2-0 Northwest Conference win Sunday at James Hayner Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First-year goalkeeper
Lucia Barrón Núñez made five saves in 82 minutes. Fellow first-year goalkeeper
Mallory Symons played the final eight minutes and added a save.
Lewis & Clark took the first shot of the game in the ninth minute. Senior
Mischa Vanek sent an attempt wide right at 8:12.
Whitman put its first shot on goal at 17:21, when Barrón Núñez stopped Leah Barnes. The Blues earned five corner kicks during the first half, but Lewis & Clark kept the game scoreless. Barrón Núñez added a save on Linnea LaFortune at 34:37, and Whitman finished the opening 45 minutes with five shots.
The Blues recorded three shots in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Barrón Núñez saved Avery Cohen's attempt at 47:51 before the River Otters produced their best stretch of chances near the hour mark.
Senior
Grace Smith put a shot on goal at 59:25, and Whitman goalkeeper Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky made the save. Junior
Maggie Faye followed 22 seconds later with another shot on target. Pasena-Littlesky stopped that attempt before Lewis & Clark earned a corner kick at 60:03.
Barrón Núñez made two more saves over the next 12 minutes. She stopped Mia Robertson at 64:34 and again at 71:17 to keep the game scoreless.
Whitman broke through at 77:18. Emma Foley scored off an assist from Cohen for a 1-0 lead. The Blues added a second goal at 81:16, when Kiki Glorioso scored with an assist from Foley.
Symons entered after the second goal and stopped Bailey Bell's shot at 87:06 for her lone save.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Barrón Núñez has recorded five or more saves in three games this season.
- Whitman finished with a 14-3 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. The Blues also earned eight corner kicks to Lewis & Clark's two.
- Lewis & Clark did not allow a first-half goal for the sixth time in seven games this season.
