Ā
HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ
Ā
George Fox rallied from deficits of 5-0 and 8-2 in game one to tie the game at 10 after three innings. Dahir hit her second homer of the game to put Lewis & Clark back ahead and junior
Ryan Jurischk and senior
Maggie O'Leary held the hosts scoreless for the final four innings.Ā
Ā
Dahir and first year catcher
Kodie Ancheta led Lewis & Clark offensively on Sunday. Dahir belted a pair of homers in game one and finished the day 3-6 with two runs scored, six RBI, a double and a walk. Ancheta added five hits in eight at-bats, two runs, three RBI and a pair of doubles.Ā
Ā
First years
Meeghan Meagher (single and home run),
Kara Kahahawai (triple) and
Nalana Warfield (single) all posted their first collegiate hits in the doubleheader.Ā
Ā
GAME ONEĀ
Ā
Lewis & Clark posted season-highs in runs (13) and hits (13) and tied their season-high with four extra-base hits to win a topsy-turve game one. The River Otters jumped all over the Bruins early but the hosts bats finally came alive and George Fox scored eight runs across the second and third innings to knot the game at 10-10. Lewis & Clark would use strong pitching and defense down the stretch to clinch the series win.Ā
Ā
Dahir broke out in a big way in game one. The senior went 3-4 with two runs scored and a career-high six RBI. She hit her fourth and fifth homers of the year and added a double for 10 total bases.Ā
Ā
Senior
Emily Patton added two hits, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base. Ancheta chipped in two hits, a run scored and an RBI and senior
Gina Ozuna went 2-3 with an RBI. Meagher and senior
Madison Scroggins each notched a hit and two runs scored.Ā
Ā
Jurischk and O'Leary pitched the final 5.2 innings of the contest. Jurischk allowed five hits, one walk and four runs over 3.2 innings, to pick up her first win of the season. O'Leary scattered one hit and struck out four over the final two innings to earn her second save of the week.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark jumped all over George Fox ace Nicole Ledendecker for the second-straight day. Ancheta led off the top of the first with a single and Scroggins reached on an error to put two on with no outs. Patton started the scoring with an RBI single to right-center. The River Otters made it 2-0 on a wild pitch that scored Scroggins. Campanella followed with a walk and Dahir crushed an opposite-field home run to extend the lead to 5-0. That would do it for Ledendecker - who left after just five batters and failed to record an out.Ā
Ā
George Fox responded with a pair of unearned runs against Lewis & Clark first year starter
Sammy Santa Ana in the bottom of the first. With two on and two outs, junior
Sofia Garcia came on in relief and induced a pop up to short to keep the score 5-2.Ā
Ā
The visitors made it 8-2 in the top of the second. With the bases loaded after singles from Ancheta, Patton and Campanella, Dahir belted a two-run double to score Scroggins and Patton. Ozuna followed with an RBI groundout to plate senior pinch runner
Lacey Marglin.Ā
Ā
George Fox designated player Corine Doran cut the deficit to 8-7 in the bottom of the second when she capped off a five-run inning with a grand slam.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark added two more runs in the third. Meagher led off the frame with her first career hit and senior
Lola Jarrette reached on a Bruins error. After a Scroggins hit by pitch loaded the bases, Patton drove in Meagher with an RBI groundout. The River Otters made it 10-7 with a double steal that saw Jarrette dash home from third.Ā
Ā
The Bruins tied the game in the bottom of the third on a Kiley Harris three-run homer with two down.Ā
Ā
It took four pitches for Lewis & Clark to regain the lead. Dahir drove a 2-1 pitch over the right-center field fence to lead off the top of the fourth and give Lewis & Clark the lead for good.Ā
Ā
George Fox would put the tying run on the third with one out in the bottom of the fourth but Jurischk recorded a pair of flyouts to left to keep the score 11-10.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark added two key insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Meagher led off with a walk and raced all the way home when Kahahawai laced a triple just inside the right-field line for her first career hit, extra-base hit and RBI. Ancheta made it 13-10 with a sac fly that scored Kahahawai from third.Ā
Ā
O'Leary struck out the final two batters of the game to seal the victory.Ā
Ā
GAME TWO RECAPĀ
Ā
Game two was shaping up to be a pitcher's duel through the first four innings, before George Fox hit a pair of home runs and held off a late Lewis & Clark charge.Ā
Ā
Ancheta was the lone River Otter to finish with multiple hits in game two. She finished 3-4 with a run scored, two RBI and two doubles.Ā
Ā
Meagher added her first career home run, a pair of runs and a walk. Campanella chipped in her fourth home run of the week.Ā
Ā
O'Leary went toe-to-toe with George Fox number two pitcher Riley Pirkle for the first 4.5 innings. She ultimately allowed eight hits, two walks and seven runs (five earned). The River Otters ace tacked on four strikeouts.Ā
Ā
Pirkle opened the scoring from the Bruins in the bottom of the fourth. With two down and a runner on second, the George Fox pitcher laced an RBI double to right-center to make it 1-0.Ā
Ā
Meagher responded in the top of the fifth with a home run over the left-field fence for her first collegiate homer.Ā
Ā
The hosts put together their second-biggest inning of the series in the bottom of the inning. After a Lewis & Clark error allowed the first run to score, Doran hit her third home run of the series to push the lead to 5-1.Ā
Ā
The River Otters wouldn't go down without a fight. Warfield led off the top of the sixth with a base hit to right field for her first collegiate hit. Ancheta followed with a double to left-center to score Jarrette. Patton cut the deficit to 5-3 with a sacrifice fly for the second out in the inning. Campanella followed by blasting a home run over the left-field fence to make it 5-4.Ā
Ā
George Fox added two key insurance runs in the sixth. O'Leary struck out the first two batters, but the second batter reached on a passed ball. Grace Wilson made Lewis & Clark pay with a two-run homer to make it 7-4.Ā
Ā
Meagher opened the seventh with a walk and raced home on Ancheta's two-out, RBI single. Scroggins followed with a single to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but George Fox reliever Allison Heater induced a groundout to end the game.Ā
Ā
