Makoni Earns First Career NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

The junior went 3-0 in singles play to help women’s tennis earn a pair of wins against SCIAC opponents.

PORTLAND, Ore. –Lewis & Clark women's tennis junior Charlotte Makoni earned her first career Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Makoni went 3-0 in singles and won at first doubles to help the River Otters earn a pair of victories over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents. She is the second consecutive River Otter to earn the award after senior Susanna Anand was honored last week.
 
Makoni opened the weekend with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback win at second singles against Occidental College on Friday. Her victory sparked a 4-3 comeback team win for Lewis & Clark.
 
On Saturday, Makoni moved to the top of the lineup and defeated Whittier's No. 1 singles player 6-3, 7-5 and paired with Anand for a 7-5 win at first doubles. She closed the weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles against Chapman on Sunday.
 
Her win at first singles against Whittier moved her to 5-0 all-time at the top of the lineup. The junior is 3-1 in singles dual matches this season.
 
Lewis & Clark opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 2018. The River Otters return to NWC action this weekend when they travel to play Puget Sound at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Tacoma.
