SPANAWAY, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark women's golf team had a strong opening round at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Saturday, finishing with a 327. The NWC Spring Classic is the second of three conference championship tournaments.
The defending champions, George Fox, are currently in first place with a 317, while Whitworth is in second (322) and Whitman is in third (323). The Pioneers are close behind in fourth place, while Pacific Lutheran is fifth (330), Willamette is sixth (367), Linfield is seventh (370), Puget Sound is eighth (402) and Pacific is ninth (410).
Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman is the current leader of the pack with a 73. Loreece Masanide (77) and Sydney Maluenda (78) or George Fox are in second and third respectively.
The Pioneers are paced by Abbi Rautenberg, who is in a tie for fourth place with a 79. Arielle Valdez is tied for 10th place (81) and Claire Burke is right behind in 13th place (82). Sofia Vigil rounds out the group with yet another top-20 finish after shooting a 85.
The team returns to the course on Sunday, April 12 to conclude the tournament.
