Jani Wins First Career NWC Event, Women's Golf Posts Best Finish Since 2018

Women's Golf finished third overall - their best finish at an NWC event since the 2018 Fall Classic

LAKEWOOD, Wash.—Sophomore Ahika Jani earned her first career Northwest Conference Tournament win and Lewis & Clark College women's golf posted their best finish in an NWC event since the 2018 Fall Classic on Sunday afternoon.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ

The River Otters shot the third-lowest round of the day on Sunday to move up one spot at the 2026 NWC Spring Classic. It marked their best result since the 2018 NWC Fall Classic (third place).Ā Ā

Lewis & Clark shot a 313 (+25) on Day Two to easily outpace Whitman (+68 for the weekend) and Pacific University (+78). With their result, they will head to the NWC Championship in third overall in the full season team standings.Ā 

"The ladies played their best overall tournament of the year in windy conditions," head coach Brad Breier said.Ā "Ahika winning her third in row is a testament to her resilience and willingness to listen to coaching over the last two seasons. I am very proud of all the ladies."

Jani dominated en-route to her best-ever finish at an NWC event and her third-straight win. The sophomore carded a 73 (+1) on Sunday to place first overall by four strokes. She shot a 147 (+3) across the two days and finished tied for first or first in the field on both days. Jani finished her day by going -2 over her final six holes to easily pull away from the field. On her final hole of the tournament, she posted a birdie on the Par 5 14thĀ hole, to put an exclamation point on her win.Ā

Fellow sophomore Evie Denton placed second on the team and 13thĀ overall. Denton recorded two birdies and one double bogey over her final six holes to finish out the weekend strong. She posted a 78 (+6) on Sunday and finished the tournament with a 160 (+16).Ā

First year Kimber Yoder came in just behind Denton in a tie for 14thĀ place. The first year carded an 81 (+9) on Sunday. She posted one birdie and one bogey over her final six holes to wrap up the weekend with a 161 (+17).Ā

First year Darwyn Kormany finished tied for third on the team on Sunday. She started off the day strong with five pars and two birdies amongst her first 10 holes (+2). Kormany would post a score of 81 (+9) on Sunday and a final score of 166 (+22). She would close out the tournament in 21stĀ place.Ā

Sophomore Julia Klenk finished in 24thĀ place. She recorded birdies on the Par 3 sixth hole and par 5 ninth to post a score of 84 (+12). Klenk would register a final score of 169 (+25).Ā

BY THE NUMBERSĀ 
  • Jani is likely to be the first Lewis & Clark women's golfer to win an NWC event since Hall of Famer Mari (Kotake) Rayner won the 2001 NWC Fall Classic and 2002 NWC Championship.Ā 
  • The River Otters sit third in the NWC Standings after the first two events. George Fox University (+34) and Whitworth University (+45) who finished first and second on the weekend are the only teams ahead of Lewis & Clark. The Bruins own a 19-stroke lead over the Pirates and a 36-stroke lead over the River Otters. Lewis & Clark leads fourth-place Whitman by four strokes and fifth-place Pacific by 12 strokes.Ā 
  • The River Otters finished second in the field this weekend on Par 5s (5.25, +10), third on Par 3s (3.35, +14) and fourth on par 4s (4.55, +54).Ā 
  • After finishing second in each of the past two NWC events, Jani broke through with her first career NWC Tournament medalist honors. She has finished in the top-20 in all five career NWC Tournaments.Ā 
  • Lewis & Clark finished tied for the team lead with 17 birdies and third with 84 birdies.
  • Jani will enter the NWC Championship tied for the lowest aggregate score from the first two NWC Tournaments this season. She and George Fox University's Katelyn Lam, who won the NWC Fall Classic, have both posted 306 strokes through their first four rounds.Ā 
  • Jani led the field on Par 5s (4.63, -3) and placed tied for first on Par 3s (3.13, +1). She also finished tied for second on Par 4s (4.25, +5).Ā 
  • Denton finished tied for fifth in the field with a 5.00 average (Even) on Par 5s.Ā 
  • Jani tied for first in the field with six birdies and just nine bogeys and tied for fifth overall with 21 pars.Ā 
  • Denton tied for first in the field with just one double bogey or worse.Ā

Lewis & Clark will travel to Michelbrook Country Club on April 12-13 for the Wildcat Invitational, in their final tune-up before the NWC Championship (April 19-20).
