TACOMA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark women's golf team opened the 2015 spring season with a third place finish at the Puget Sound Invitational. The Pioneers ended the weekend with a two-day score of 670 (338 + 332).
Whitman won the invite with a 632, while Whitworth took home second place with a 635. Pacific Lutheran finished in fourth place (681), Puget Sound fifth (749) and Olympic College sixth (822).
Claire Burke was the Pioneers top finisher with a 160. The finish was good enough to give the sophomore sixth place. Burke finished the opening round with a 78, which she followed up with an 82 on Sunday.
Sofia Vigil also ended the weekend in the top-20 with a 10th place finish for Lewis & Clark. Vigil was consistent throughout the weekend, shooting 81 on both days for a 162. Arielle Valdez rounded out the Pioneers in the top-20 with a 170. The finish put Valdez in 17th place with an 86 on day one and an 84 on day two.
Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman won the event with a 151, while Chelsea Bayley of Whitworth finished in second (154) and Lou Points of Whitman ended the weekend in third (156).
