SPANAWAY, Wash. - Only one stroke separates sophomores Arielle Valdez and Claire Burke who both currently sit in the top-five at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational with Valdez shooting a 78 and Burke a 79. The team is currently in third place with a 332.
Whitworth is currently in the lead with a 318, while PLU is three strokes ahead of the Pioneers with a 329, earning them second place. Linfield is in fourth with a 377, Pacific in in fifth with a 389, while neither Puget Sound or Trinity Lutheran turned in a score.
Valdez currently sits alone in third place with her 78, trailing the top score of the day by just four strokes. Just one stroke back is Burke, along with two other competitors, with 79's. Sofia Vigil turned in the next best score for the Pioneers, sitting in a two-way tie for seventh place with an 81. Abbi Rautenberg rounds out the Pioneers team score with a 94, while currently puts her in a tie for 19th place.
The team returns to the course on Sunday, Sept. 14 to close out the tournament.
