KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark women's golf team had three individuals finish in the top-10 of the Whitworth Invitational which featured five other Northwest Conference institutions. Overall the Pioneers finished in fourth place with a 702 (350 + 352).
The Whitman Missionaries won the invite with a two day score of 638, while the host Pirates were second (661) and the Pacific Lutheran Lutes were third with a 667. Finishing behind the Pioneers were the Linfield Wildcats with a 726 and Puget Sound Loggers with a 772.
Claire Burke, who had the Pioneers best first round score, finished in a tie for sixth place with an overall score of 161 (79 + 82). Sofia Vigil ended the invite three strokes back of Burke with a 164 (81 + 83). The score earned Vigil an eighth place finish with Anna Jessen of PLU. Arielle Valdez had the best closing round for the Pios with an 80, shaving five strokes off from day one. Valdez's 165 put her in a tie for 10th place just one stroke back from Vigil.
Abbi Rautenberg rounded out the team score for the Pioneers with a 212 for 29th place.
Kelly Sweeney of Whitman was the top finisher with a 154, while Michal Schuster of Whitworth was second (157) and Alyssa Maine of Whitman finished third (158).
The team returns to the course on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the George Fox Invitational hosted at the Reserve.
