Whitman Defeats Women's Tennis 6-1

First year Alex Mignogna earned two wins against the NWC Regular Season Champions

WALLA WALLA, Wash.—First year Alex Mignogna went 2-0, but Lewis & Clark College women's tennis fell 6-1 to Northwest Conference Regular-Season Champions Whitman College on Sunday.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mignogna combined with sophomore Maya Curry for a win at second doubles and added a win at sixth singles to lead the River Otters.Ā

Whitman opened the match with a win at third doubles. Bailey Bell and Jules Thompson combined to defeated junior Charlotte Makoni and sophomore Madi Vianzon 6-1.Ā

The Blues clinched the doubles point at first doubles, when Nana Vang and Renata Rosell earned a 6-1 win over senior Susanna Anand and junior Emma Loucks.Ā

Lewis & Clark picked up a win at second doubles. Mignogna and Curry dispatched Gloria Lau and Sascha Wells 6-4.Ā

Lau pushed the Whitman lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Vianzon at fifth singles.Ā

Bell added a 6-2, 6-2 win over sophomore Anna English at fourth singles to make it 3-0.Ā

Mignogna put the River Otters on the board at sixth singles. The first year defeated Leah Lovato 6-2, 6-3 for Lewis & Clark's first point of the day.Ā

Julia Longpre secured the match victory with a 6-0, 6-4 win at third singles over Curry.Ā

Vang added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ananda at first singles.Ā

In the final match to finish, Wells earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Makoni at number two singles.Ā

BY THE NUMBERSĀ 
  • Mignogna earned her 10thĀ singles win of the year (10-9) and her first-ever win at sixth singles (1-0).Ā 
  • Curry and Mignogna are a combined 4-3 at number two doubles this season and have won three of their past four matches.Ā 
  • Entering the final weekend of NWC play, Lewis & Clark owns a 42-30 record in NWC singles matches and a 21-15 record in doubles matches.Ā 
  • The River Otters are 10-7 this year in all number six doubles matches.Ā 
  • Lewis & Clark enters the final weekend of NWC play in a tie for third-place in the NWC Standings with Pacific University (7-5). The River Otters can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Boxers on Saturday thanks to their 4-3 road win over Pacific on March 7.Ā Ā

Lewis & Clark will honor senior Susanna Anand on Saturday at 9 a.m. on Senior Day. The River Otters will host Pacific University in their final home match of the season and second-to-last match of the 2026 regular season.Ā
