Women’s Tennis Dominates Linfield in 6-1 Road Win

Balanced lineup effort included four players with two wins and four dominant singles results.

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's tennis defeated Linfield University 6-1 in a Northwest Conference match Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Senior Susanna Anand, junior Maya Curry, sophomore Madi Vianzon and first-year Alex Mignogna each earned two wins to lead Lewis & Clark.
 
Lewis & Clark swept doubles to secure the opening point. Junior Charlotte Makoni and Vianzon won 6-0 over Sundi King and Lyla Khlee at No. 3. Curry and Mignogna clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Emily Redwood and Gianna Molony at No. 2. Anand and junior Emma Loucks completed the sweep at No. 1, edging Kaitlynn Canubida and Sam Baltz 7-6 (9-7) in a tiebreaker.
 
Lewis & Clark won five of six singles matches. Curry earned the first singles win at No. 3, defeating Redwood 6-1, 6-1 to extend the lead to 2-0. Anand followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Canubida at No. 1 to make it 3-0.
 
Linfield's Baltz recorded the Wildcats' only point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Makoni at No. 2, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
 
Sophomore Anna English answered at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over King. Mignogna defeated Molony 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to extend the lead to 5-1. Vianzon closed the match at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Khlee.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Four River Otters lost two games or fewer in singles: English (6-0, 6-0), Vianzon (6-0, 6-1), Curry (6-1, 6-1), and Mignogna (6-2, 6-1).
  • Anand won her 10th conference singles match on Sunday and 16th overall.
  • The River Otters can clinch the No. 3 seed in next weekend's NWC Tournament with a win over Pacific. A loss would create a three-way tie with George Fox and Pacific, with tiebreakers determining seeding.

Lewis & Clark hosts Pacific for Senior Day on Monday at 4:30 p.m. The River Otters will honor Anand and Loucks in a pre-match ceremony.
