HOW IT HAPPENED

The women's varsity 4+ won its flight, and the women's open 8+ claimed the final race of the day. Debris near the original start forced officials to shorten the course from 2,000 meters to 1,500 meters. Conditions remained favorable, with north winds of 2 to 4 mph and clear skies.

Three programs competed: Lewis & Clark, Oregon and Pacific. Lewis & Clark entered boats in eight of nine events, with most athletes racing twice across multiple lineup combinations.

The regatta opened with the men's varsity 8+, where Lewis & Clark placed second behind Oregon. Coxswain Gemma Hoyt guided Lewis Grimes at stroke, Eliot Woods in seven, Lukas Perttula in six, Uly Smucker in five, Tommy Rotelli in four, Edison Medlock in three, Jackson Sheire in two and Daniel Macha in bow. The crew improved its splits from the previous week at the PLU Invitational.

In the women's 1V8+, Lewis & Clark finished second in 5:34.83, trailing Oregon (5:28.90) by 5.93 seconds. Pacific placed third in 5:54.77. Coxswain Ella Radvany directed Sadie Meredith-Andrews at stroke, Carson Cook in seven, Sydney Case in six, Meredith Lybbert in five, Emma Wind in four, Lyndsay Morris in three, Clare Kimmel in two and Zoe Mitchell in bow. The margin with Oregon improved from the previous week.

The women's 2V8+ produced the tightest eights race of the day. Lewis & Clark finished in 5:40.38, 4.56 seconds behind Oregon (5:35.82). Coxswain Morgan Anderson guided Molly Petrowitz at stroke, Sunny Greenblum in seven, Jocelyn Brandon in six, Tori Westgate in five, Carmen Aaronson in four, Amber Hayes in three, McKinley Garrett in two and Grace MacDonald in bow.

In the fours, the men's novice 4+ placed second to Oregon in 6:20.24. Coxswain Max Baker directed Eugene Ahoudji at stroke, Edison Medlock in three, Donovan Taylor in two and Frasier Shanker in bow.

The women's varsity 4+ raced in two flights. In Event 6A, Lewis & Clark's A boat won in 5:53.77, finishing 30.34 seconds ahead of Pacific (6:24.11). Oregon did not start. Coxswain Radvany steered Meredith-Andrews at stroke, Cook in three, Case in two and Mitchell in bow.

In Event 6B, Oregon took first in 5:36.56. Lewis & Clark's B boat placed second in 6:03.39 with coxswain Anderson, Hayes at stroke, Morris in three, Wind in two and Brandon in bow. The C boat finished third in 6:10.79 with coxswain Hoyt, Lybbert at stroke, Kimmel in three, Aaronson in two and Greenblum in bow.

The men's varsity 4+ placed third in Event 7A with a time of 5:36.98 behind two Oregon entries (5:08.24, 5:16.11). Coxswain Homolka directed Grimes at stroke, Woods in three, Perttula in two and Medlock in bow.

Lewis & Clark closed the day with a win in the women's open 8+, a lineup of novice and development rowers. Coxswain Fay Seirafi led Petrowitz at stroke, Westgate in seven, Garrett in six, MacDonald in five, Daniella Bulafu in four, Camille Bluberg in three, Ana Cabrera in two and Glazneva in bow. The River Otters finished in 5:50.60, 17.61 seconds ahead of Pacific (6:08.21) and 23.39 seconds ahead of Oregon (6:13.99). The race marked the first collegiate start for Bulafu.

Following the regatta, Lewis & Clark entered three pairs. Meredith-Andrews and Morris raced in one boat, Cook and Case in another and Kimmel and Greenblum in the third.

With two wins, improved margins in the eights against Oregon and most of the roster competing multiple times, Lewis & Clark showed progress from the PLU Invitational.
