Jimmy Chau was named head coach in the summer of 2018 after joining the coaching staff as an assistant in 2005. The 2026-27 season marks his 22nd year on the coaching staff and his ninth as head coach.

Chau has coached two NWC Rookie of the Years since taking over as the head coach, Rachel Rice in 2019 and Susanna Anand in 2023. Anand was named to the All-NWC team all four years and was a First Team selection in her final three seasons.

The 2025-26 River Otters finished with their most wins under Chau, going 11-8 and 9-5 in NWC play. The team earned the No. 3 seed in the NWC Tournament after missing it the previous two seasons. Chau earned his 50th career win on the women’s side in a 6-1 victory over Willamette on March 29, 2026, exactly one year after winning his 50th career men’s match.

A Portland native, Chau competed for the Lewis & Clark men’s tennis program for three seasons, with his fourth year spent overseas. He served as team captain and earned MVP honors during his senior season in 2001. Chau was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete All-American and graduated with Delta Mu Delta honors in business and economics.
