HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Junior quarterback
Dashiell Weaver and sophomore wide receiver
Sytyn Lasconia each tied single-game program records in the first half alone - to help Lewis & Clark rack up their most points in a half in at least 25 years.Â
Â
The offense scored a touchdown on six of their seven drives in the first half and junior
Kristopher Adams added a pick-six, to give Lewis & Clark a 49-14 edge at halftime.Â
Â
Weaver became only the second quarterback in program history to throw for six touchdowns in a game. The junior went 19-25 for 332 yards and six passing touchdowns and did not play after the River Otters first drive of the second half. He added a team-leading 43 rushing yards on seven carries.Â
Â
Lasconia was everywhere in the first half. He matched his program-record with four touchdown catches in a single-game and posted all four scores in the first 29 minutes of action. The sophomore registered a career-high 10 catches for 186 yards and became the first receiver in program history with multiple four-touchdown games.Â
Â
Senior tight end
Julius Walker added six catches for 137 yards and two touchdown catches of his own. He tied his career-high for receptions and set new career-highs for yards and touchdowns in a single contest.Â
Â
Adams led a Lewis & Clark defense that held strong in the second half as Lewis & Clark struggled to move the ball. The junior cornerback notched the first two interceptions of his career and the first touchdown as well. He tacked on one solo tackle.Â
Â
Senior safety
Jordan Delgado paced the team with six tackles and two solo tackles. Sophomores
Ethan Koo (one solo) and
Luke Griffin (three solo) each added five tackles to finish second on the team.Â
Â
Sophomore
Cody Strozyk added his first career interception and senior
Keegan Zaso (three) and junior
Jaden Mwendapole (two) combined for five pass break-ups in the second half.
Â
After forcing a Sagehens three and out on the first drive of the game, Lewis & Clark needed just five plays to open the scoring. Weaver and Lasconia connected three times on the drive with Weaver finding Lasconia down the left side for a 38-yard touchdown just 3:44 into the contest.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark made it 14-0 on the Sagehens second drive. Facing a third and nine from their own 27, Carson Green floated a pass into the flat that went just over his receivers' hands. Adams anticipated the pass and flew in behind the receiver to snag the interception and was able to walk into the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown.Â
Â
Pomona-Pitzer momentarily got back on course with a touchdown on their third drive to cut the deficit to 14-7 just 5:46 into the game.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark would score the next 14 points and 35 of the final 42 before halftime to completely take control.Â
Â
Weaver found
Julius Walker for a 15-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7 with 3:05 to play in the first quarter.Â
Â
After forcing another Sagehens punt, Weaver found Lasconia cutting across the middle at the eight-yard line and Lasconia juked out multiple defenders for a 13-yard touchdown on the second play of the second quarter (28-7).Â
Â
Green found Jack Sobota for a 24-yard touchdown with 12:25 to go before halftime to cut the deficit to 28-14.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark scored three times in the final 4:18 of the first half to put the game away.Â
Â
Weaver and Lasconia connected for their third touchdown of the half with 4:18 to go in the quarter. Weaver found Lasconia running across the back of the end zone for a five-yard score.Â
Â
Adams cut the next Pomona-Pitzer drive short when he leapt up among two other players to pull down his second interception of the day.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark made it 42-14 on a perfectly executed hook-and-ladder. Weaver found senior
Mateo Maehara at the Lewis & Clark 39-yard line and Maehara lateraled the ball to Lasconia who was coming across the field. The sophomore blazed down the near sideline and outran the Pomona-Pitzer defense for a 61-yard score with 1:48 to go in the half.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark added one final touchdown just before halftime. With the clock under 10 second and the River Otters facing a 4
th and 13, Weaver found a wide-open Walker at the Pomona six and Walker raced into the end zone for a 38-yard score with just two seconds left before halftime. Â
Â
Pomona-Pitzer added touchdown passes late in the third and fourth quarters to account for the final score. The Sagehens had several more chances to score but Lewis & Clark forced three turnover on downs on Pomona-Pitzer drives that reached the red zone.Â
Â
Zaso (two) and sophomore
Draven Lopez each came through with pass breakups on balls thrown to the end zone on fourth down and Strozyk ended another drive with an interception.Â
