Women’s Tennis Rallies Past Pacific on the Road

River Otters capture the last three singles courts to secure a Northwest Conference road win.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's tennis defeated Pacific University 4-3 in Northwest Conference play on Saturday morning at Holce Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The River Otters trailed 3-1 before winning the final three singles matches to secure the road victory.
 
Junior Charlotte Makoni and sophomore Madi Vianzon opened doubles play with a 6-4 win over Brooke Curtis and Mia Yamaguchi at No. 3. Pacific responded on the remaining two courts. Stella Nishimura and Chloe Takahashi defeated senior Susanna Anand and junior Emma Loucks 6-3 at No. 1, and Henleigh Elder and Tiara Yeung edged junior Maya Curry and first-year Alex Mignogna 7-5 at No. 2 to give the Boxers the doubles point.
 
Nishimura recorded the first singles result with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Makoni at No. 2 to push Pacific's lead to 2-0. Curry responded with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Curtis at No. 4 to cut the deficit to 2-1. Yamaguchi then defeated Mignogna 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 to restore the two-point margin and give Pacific a 3-1 advantage.
 
Lewis & Clark claimed the final three singles matches to complete the comeback. Sophomore Anna English defeated Yeung 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 to cut Pacific's lead to 3-2. Anand followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Takahashi at No. 1 to tie the match at 3-3. Vianzon clinched the victory at No. 6, taking the first set 6-0 and holding off Wagoner 7-5 in the second to secure the 4-3 result.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
 
  • Lewis & Clark snapped a three-match losing streak to Pacific and earned its first win over the Boxers since 2023. The River Otters also picked up their first win in Forest Grove since 2019.
  • Makoni and Vianzon competed together in doubles for the first time and recorded the River Otters' lone doubles win.
  • Anand improved to 11-2 overall, 7-1 at No. 1 singles and 5-1 in NWC play.
