Women’s Tennis Rolls to Second Sweep of Loggers

Seven River Otters earned wins in dominant victory over Puget Sound.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's tennis defeated the University of Puget Sound 7-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday at the L&C Tennis Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Seven River Otters recorded victories as Lewis & Clark swept the Loggers for the second time this season.
 
Lewis & Clark secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Junior Charlotte Makoni and sophomore Madi Vianzon opened with a 6-0 win over Ginger Parker and Zoe Ricter at No. 3. Senior Susanna Anand and junior Emma Loucks followed with a 6-4 win against Pearl Buck and Kaylee Yamada at the top spot. Junior Maya Curry and first-year Alex Mignogna completed the sweep with a 7-6 (5) win over Frances English and Nicole Wilson at No. 2.
 
Curry delivered the first singles result with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Wilson at No. 4 to extend the lead to 2-0. Anand defeated Yamada 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, and Makoni earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Frances English at No. 2 to give Lewis & Clark a 4-0 advantage and clinch the match.
 
Sophomore Anna English competed in the lone three-set match at No. 3. After dropping the first set 6-4 to Bean Lowe, English responded with a 7-6 (7-3) win in the second set and captured the match tiebreaker 10-8.
 
Mignogna added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Buck at No. 5, and Vianzon posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Meredith Friess at No. 6 to complete the sweep.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Makoni and Vianzon improved to 2-0 as a doubles pair. They last teamed up at Pacific and earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
  • Anand moved to 9-1 at No. 1 singles and 6-1 in NWC play. She is 13-2 overall in singles matches.
  • Vianzon notched her 10th singles win of the season with her victory at No. 6.
