SALEM, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College sophomores
Charlie Hageman and
Joonho Moon each shot a 70 (-1), to lead men's golf on Day One of the Willamette Valley Cup.
THE BASICS
Men's Golf – T-6th out of 13 Teams – 290 (+6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first tournament of the spring with most of the Northwest Conference schools competing, men's golf sits tied for sixth after the opening 18 holes. The River Otters sit just four strokes behind host #12 Willamette and fifth out of seven NWC teams.
Hageman and Moon produced the standout rounds for Lewis & Clark. The duo are tied with nine other golfers at -1 after the opening 18 holes.
Hageman produced five birdies and four bogeys on Saturday. He started on hole number 15 and quickly jumped out to three-under after his first eight holes. He notched birdies on the first, third and fourth holes to get to -3, but would post one birdie and three bogeys over his final 10 holes to finish with a 70 (-1).
Moon would follow a similar pattern. The sophomore birdied three of his first seven holes to get to three-under. He would add a birdie on the par 4 seventh to finish his round with four birdies.
Junior
Luke Blankinship finished third on the team and tied for 32
nd on Day One. He played well outside of two holes. Blankinship posted two bogeys in his first four holes but responded with four pars and three birdies over his next seven holes. The junior would post one more birdie but would add a double bogey and a triple bogey to finish with a 74 (+3).
Sophomore
Tanner Moody ended the day as the team's fourth and final scorer. Moody posted a 76 (+5) to place tied for 45
th after the opening 18 holes. Moody would start the day +4 after four holes. He would bounce back with a stretch of -1 over his next 5 holes and would limit the damage to two bogeys across his final 14 holes.
Sophomore
Mason Hill wrapped up the day fifth on the team and tied for 58
th overall. Hill started his round with back-to-back bogeys but settled in with birdies on the par 5 first hole and par 4 fifth. He would post four more bogeys and a double bogey to finish the day with a 78 (+7).
BY THE NUMBERS
- Linfield's Douglas Bailey leads the field after shooting a 66 (-5) on Saturday.
- #12 Willamette (+2) holds a one stroke lead on #19 Whitman College (+3) and Linfield University (+3).
- The River Otters are tied for first in the field with 16 birdies on Day One. They also sit second with a 4.22 average (+10) on par 4s.
- Hageman (five) and Moon (four) rank tied for fifth and tied for ninth in the field in birdies.
- Moody finished first on the team and tied for sixth overall with 13 pars on Saturday.
