Men’s Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Whitworth

Spencer Loucks and Kaden Sigurdsson improved to 3-0 as a doubles team.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Lewis & Clark College men's tennis fell to Whitworth University 5-2 in Northwest Conference men's tennis on Saturday afternoon at Scotford Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Lewis & Clark gained an early edge in doubles when senior Spencer Loucks and first-year Kaden Sigurdsson defeated Connor Judson and Matthew Morrison 6-1 at No. 3 in the first match to finish. Whitworth evened the round at No. 1, where Ryan Ashley and Henry Preacher topped junior Noah Sutin and senior Kai Wills 6-4. The Pirates clinched the doubles point at No. 2, where Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack edged sophomore Arnav Bishnoi and senior Wade McDermott 7-6.
 
Trailing 1-0 entering singles, Lewis & Clark fell behind further at No. 3, where Ashley defeated Bishnoi 6-1, 6-1 in the first singles result of the afternoon. McDermott responded at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Froslan to cut Whitworth's lead to 2-1. Whitworth pushed its advantage to 3-1 at No. 4, where Judson defeated Wills 7-5, 6-0.
 
Sutin pulled Lewis & Clark within 3-2 at No. 2 with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Preacher.
 
The final two matches each went three sets, and Whitworth won both to secure the team victory. At No. 1, Morrison defeated Sigurdsson 7-5, 2-6, 6-0. Sigurdsson forced a third set by winning the second, but Morrison controlled the decider without dropping a game. At No. 6, Hossack defeated Loucks 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Loucks claimed the middle set before Hossack closed out the match in the third.
