Portland, Ore.—The Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame Committee announced their Class of 2023 on Thursday, July 27. This year's class is comprised of three individuals and one team, along with Ken Goe '76 (Lifetime Sport and Achievement Award) and Dr. Robert Sandmeier (Meritorious Service Award). Lewis & Clark will also be recognizing Lisa Housman who was voted in as part of the Class of 2022.

Colin Oriard (men's basketball), Emily Thomas (women's cross country, track & field) and Kristina Williams (women's basketball), join Housman (women's soccer, track & field) as the four individual recipients who will be honored this fall. The 2012-13 women's basketball team will be this year's team honoree.

This year's Hall of Fame Ceremony will be hosted in-person on Friday October 27, 2023. A social hour will begin at 5:15pm and then dinner and the induction ceremony will run from 6-8 pm.

The Lewis & Clark Athletics Hall of Fame is one of the oldest in the Pacific Northwest, with its inaugural class inducted in 1978.

More information on the ceremony and tickets will be provided at a later date.

Lisa Housman – Women's Soccer/Track & Field – 2004-07

When women's soccer was elevated back to varsity status in 2004, Housman was one of the driving forces for the new program. The three-time All-Conference honoree still owns the career program records with 34 goals, 74 points and 250 shots on goal. As a true freshman, Housman netted 11 goals and 23 points-marks that would stand as the program record until 2022. She led the team in scoring in three of her four seasons and still owns two of the three highest point totals in program history. Housman was a prolific goal scorer, who netted five of the seven hat tricks in program history. On September 3, 2004, Housman scored a program record four goals in a win over Cascade College. When the calendar changed, she made an impact for the track & field program. Housman still owns marks that rank in the top-40 in program history in the pole vault, 100M dash and 200M dash. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Housman was selected as part of the Class of 2022 but deferred her induction to this year.

Colin Oriard – Men's Basketball – 1999-2003

Oriard still stands as one of the top players in program history over 20 years after he hung up his Pioneers jersey for the final time. The four-time All-Conference honoree ranks in the top-10 in program history in both points (1,587 – 7th) and steals (116 – 9th). As a freshman, he was selected to the Northwest Conference All-Conference First Team and finished third in the NWC Player of the Year voting. He bookended his career with a second stint on the NWC First Team and was recognized on the Honorable Mention Little All-Northwest Basketball Team in each of his first two seasons. Oriard's strong individual play coincided with an impressive four years of results for the program. Lewis & Clark won the NWC Regular Season Title in his freshman (1999-2000) and junior seasons (2001-02) and were crowned NWC Tournament Champions in his sophomore (2000-01) and junior campaigns (2001-02). The 2001-02 team, which was previously inducted into the Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame in 2016, won three games in the NCAA Tournament to make it all the way to the NCAA Regional Final. After graduating, Oriard went on to play professional basketball in Denmark for Lemvig from 2009-11.

Emily Thomas – Women's Cross Country/Track & Field – 2009-13

Thomas will go down as one of the top distance runners in school history. Over the course of her four years, Thomas led the cross country program to new heights, while racking up numerous accolades in cross country and outdoor track & field. A decade after graduating, Thomas still ranks in the top-five in six different categories, including the third fastest 6K time in cross country program history and the second-fastest 5K and 10K marks in outdoor track & field. Thomas was pivotal to cross country winning the NWC Title for the first three times in program history (2010-2012) and qualifying for a spot at the NCAA Championship Meet as a team in 2012. That fall, Thomas finished first at the NWC Championship Meet and placed 46th at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet (third-best finish in program history). Thomas proved to be just as fearsome on the track in the spring. She is the only woman in NWC Championship Meet history to win both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the same meet in two separate years (2012 and 2013). As a senior, she was named the NWC Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete of the Meet – becoming only the second Pioneer to have won the award. She wrapped up her career as a four-time All-Region honoree, eighth-time All-Conference honoree, earned a spot at Nationals for cross country three times and set three program records in outdoor track.

Kristina Williams – Women's Basketball – 2009-13

Williams ranks as one of, if not the, top player in women's basketball program history. She is the only player in Lewis & Clark program history to rank in the top five in career points (1,790 points – 2nd), rebounds (718 – t-5th), assists (287 -3rd) and steals (202 – 5th). Over the course of her four years, she led the team in scoring four times and was named to the NWC All-Conference Team all four years (First Team three times). She was the second player in program history to be named the NWC Player of the Year and matched L&C Hall of Famer Kathy Gibson by achieving the mark twice (2010-11 and 2012-13). After earning All-Region honors as a sophomore (First Team) and junior (Second Team), Williams was named a First Team All-American by the WBCA and D3hoops.com during her senior season. She led the conference in total points (533), points per game (18.4) and made free throws (153) that season, while finishing in the top-five in the NWC in rebounds (244), steals (57), blocks (28) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3). Over the course of her four seasons, the Pioneers went 87-25 and earned three trips to the NCAA Tournament. After her career, Williams went on to return to Lewis & Clark as an assistant coach and then served as the women's basketball head coach for three years.

2012-13 Women's Basketball Team – Team Inductee

The 2012-13 women's basketball team capped off a run of three outstanding years in a row for the program. After going a combined 46-11 the previous two seasons, women's basketball put together one of the best seasons in program history in 2012-13. The Pioneers won a program-record 11-straight games to start the season and moved up to #5 in the D3hoops.com Women's Basketball Top-25 Poll-their highest-ranking in program history. Women's basketball matched the program record for conference victories (14-2) en-route to winning the program's first outright NWC Regular Season Title since 1993-94. They earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and hosted an NCAA Tournament Regional for the first time in program history. The Pioneers defeated Trinity (Texas) 78-49 to reach the NCAA Second Round for the second time in program history. At the end of the season, head coach Juli Fulks was named the Region 8 Coach of the Year and senior Kristina Williams was tabbed the NWC Player of the Year and a D3hoops.com All-American First Team honoree. Fellow senior Sara Villanueva (First Team) and junior Tayler Wang (Honorable Mention) were also named to the NWC All-Conference Team. The Pioneers wrapped up the season tied for the second-most wins in program history (25-4).

Ken Goe – Lifetime Sport and Achievement Award – Class of 1976

After graduating from Lewis & Clark in 1976, Goe spent 43 years working as a sports reporter for The Oregonian. While he covered a wide array of sports during his tenure, Goe focused on track & field and college football. He covered the Olympics for The Oregonian in 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio De Janiero), multiple Rose Bowls, Final Fours and NCAA Football Championships. He won the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Best Sports Feature Story in 2000 for his article on the 25th anniversary of Steve Prefontaine's death. In 2020, Goe was named the Oregon Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

Robert Sandmeier – Team Doctor – Meritorious Service Award

Dr. Sandmeier volunteered his time for 18 years as the Pioneers team orthopedic surgeon. He would be on the sideline for football games and then set up a weekly time slot to see athletes on campus.

"I am grateful for the time Dr Sandmeier gave to Lewis & Clark," head athletic trainer Jeremy Loew said. "Over 18 years, he saw a countless number of student-athletes in the athletic training room when he came to campus each week. He always provided kind and compassionate care to everyone he saw. His contribution to the sports medicine program is immeasurable."
