PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College football offensive coordinator Michael Machado is going to be quite busy this summer.Â
Â
The 2019 Lewis & Clark alum, who's set to enter his fifth year as the team's offensive coordinator, has earned a pair of opportunities this summer to work with National Football League (NFL) teams through the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program. The program's objective is to use NFL club's preparations in advance of the regular season to give opportunities to observe, participate and gain experience, with the ultimate goal of earning a full-time NFL coaching position.
Â
Machado kicked off the summer by working with the Cleveland Browns for a week during their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) period. He traveled to Cleveland from May 17-22 and worked with the team's quarterback room. Throughout the week, he helped run individual quarterback drills, inputted and organized practice data and observed and learned from the day-to-day operations of the Browns organization.Â
Â
"It was an unbelievable experience, and I learned a tremendous amount from both a schematic and organizational standpoint that I can bring back to Lewis & Clark," Machado said. "During my time there, I was assigned to the quarterback room and had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside outstanding coaches and athletes. The Browns organization treated me like one of their own throughout the entire experience."Â
Â
Later this summer, Machado will travel to Massachusetts to work with the New England Patriots for nearly a month (June 19-August 15) during their Training Camp. He is assigned to the offensive side of the ball and will have the opportunity to be with the team for their preseason home game against the Indianapolis Colts on August 13.Â
Â
Last summer, Machado worked with his hometown team, the San Francisco 49ers, for his first Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. He spent nearly a month working with the team's tight end room including seven-time Pro Bowler George Kittle.Â
Â
In his first four years with his alma mater, Machado has helped Lewis & Clark post three-straight .500 seasons or better and the program's first winning season, 6-4 in 2025, since 2011. The River Otters have finished in the top-three in the Northwest Conference in points and yards per game in all four seasons.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark finished the 2025 season second in the conference in points per game (34.9) and yards per contest (430.1). The River Otters wrapped up the season in the top-100 in NCAA DIII in: completion percentage (65.4% - 27
th), passing offense (275.1 yards per game – 28
th), red-zone offense (87.2% - 28
th), total offense (38
th), scoring offense (49
th), third-down conversion percentage (45.4% - 57
th) and fourth-down conversion percentage (52.2% - 83

Iggy Marquez, sophomore offensive lineman
Ramses Packer and first year wide receiver Sytytn Lasconia were all named to the NWC All-Conference Team for the first time in their careers at the end of the season. Â
