PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College football junior Elijah Washington became the first Pioneer football player to earn All-Region honors in over a decade, when he was announced as a D3football.com Region 6 Second Team All-Region honoree on Wednesday morning. 
 
Washington was selected to the Second Team for his efforts as the team's long snapper. He is the first All-Region selection for the football program since Shawn Evans and Louie Baltazar each were honored in 2011. Evans, who was also an All-Region honoree in 2010, Baltazar and Washington are the Pioneers only All-Region selections since 2000. 
 
Washington served as the Pioneers second running back, kickoff returner and long snapper in his first year with the program. The junior proved to be a key part of the Pioneers punt coverage team. 
 
He posted eight tackles (seven solo), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery on special teams. He posted two stops for negative yardage on punt returns and seven of his eight tackles held opposing punt returners to seven yards or less. Washington posted fumble recoveries against #4 Linfield and Pacific, including forcing a fumble and recovering the fumble at the Pacific one-yard line against the Boxers.
 
On the year, he finished the season first in the conference in kickoff return yardage (625 yards) and tied for the league lead in total yardage (1,179) and total yardage per game (131.0). Washington also ranked seventh in the NWC in rushing yards per contest (45.8) and posted a line of 79 rushes for 412 yards and one touchdown. He tacked on 18 receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown.
